ISAN: FROM THE RED LOTUS SEA TO THE BANKS OF THE MEKONG

    Day 1: Arrival in Udon Thani


    Transfer from Udon Thani airport, train station or bus terminal to your hotel.

    Meet in the evening to eat at the night market with your guide who will explain the different specialties to you.

    Night in your hotel with swimming pool in town.

    Day 2: Red Lotus sea and road to Nong Khai


    Early morning boat trip on the sea of pink lotuses, a lake of which a large part is covered with blooming lotus flowers.

    Pottery workshop with a local artisan. Making a vase with clay. Painting of another vase with typical regional motifs. Making bracelets and necklaces with pottery beads.

    Discovery of two astonishing temples

    Lunch in a local restaurant with a small pond and bordered by rice fields

    Visit to Buddha Park in Nong Khai

    Dinner in a floating restaurant on the Mekong.

    Night in a pretty little hotel with a real artistic identity.

    Day 3: Nong Khai and road along the Mekong


    Visit the most important Wat Pho Chai in the city of Nong Khai. Blessing by a monk.

    Stop at a temple to the much-revered bronze Buddha. Initiation to the ritual of the sticks which we could call the Thai horoscope.

    Stop at an artisanal factory producing a local food product (weather permitting).

    Lunch in a restaurant on the banks of the Mekong

    For the more adventurous, visit an astonishing cave with very narrow passages.

    Day 4: Discovery of Chiang Khan


    Get up at 5 a.m. to climb a mountain by tractor and watch the sunrise over the Mekong River from an incredible viewpoint.

    Return to the hotel for breakfast facing the river and Laos on the other bank.

    Visit to a cocoa plantation and chocolate facial (optional).

    Vegetable picking in the vegetable garden then meal preparation and lunch on a local farm.

    Free time in the old town of Chiang Khan

    Cruises on the Mekong at sunset

    Dinner in a local restaurant or in Walking Street, a large night market which takes place on the most famous street in the city (depending on the day)

    Day 5: Chiang Khan and night at a homestay


    Participation in morning offerings to the monks. Those of Chiang Khan are famous throughout Thailand to the point that on weekends, many Thais come from very far away.

    Return to the hotel for breakfast

    Bicycle tour along the Mekong to the rapids and lunch at one of the local restaurants there.

    Continuation of the bike tour including a stop at a local candy factory and a visit to two temples.

    Late afternoon and evening with a local community. On the program: folk dances, games with the children, trying on their outfits, workshops on making one of their traditional objects, local dinner facing the mountains. Night with locals in a guest house.

    Day 6: Return to Udon Thani


    Thai breakfast with your hosts and it will be time to say goodbye.

    From there, we can take you to Loei or offer you a day with or without visits to bring you back to Udon Thani. Among the possible stops, the superb Erawan cave and its large Buddha at the entrance.
